if there were such a thing
as a single word to describe
y o u , i'd use it.

but when it comes down to it,
you're not the type of person
a lonely girl would write about.

you're a nearly lost cause,
pulled back from the brink of extinction
and saved from yourself.

i know you've been suffering
from your own personal demons,
they've been drowning you
in the nightmares of the past life
that you've tried so hard to leave behind.
(but there's this thing about
being unable to just forget things
and there's this thing about
learning how to remember only the good.)

you've had your low points,
but so has everyone,
and just because yours may not be
as tame as the average person's
that doesn't make you the monster
i know you think you are.

because you're not cold-hearted
or evil. you're merely someone
who's had their fair share of
the wrong side of the law
and everything that goes with it.
you've made mistakes,
but so have i
and so has everyone.

you've been balancing on the edge of
misery, laced with the memory
of everything you've lost
and i know it's never been easy for you.

a life of hardship
that's made you into who you are today:
the strongest person i know...

someone who's lost
more times than they've won
and someone who deserves
to be finally given the world
that they have never been offered.
